Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), your guide will meet and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, enjoy a pre-climb briefing, equipment check, and Q&A session with your mountain guide.
Start your Kilimanjaro adventure with a scenic drive to Machame Gate, where you’ll register and begin your trek through the thick rainforest. Surrounded by ancient trees and lively bird calls, you'll hike gently upward along muddy paths. The forest canopy offers a peaceful introduction to the mountain. Reach Machame Camp by afternoon for a warm meal and overnight rest.
The trail continues up a steep ridge as you leave the forest behind and enter moorland, dotted with giant heathers and volcanic rock. You’ll get your first clear view of Kibo Peak as the trail flattens onto the Shira Plateau, a vast alpine plain formed by lava flows. Spend the night at Shira Camp, enjoying sunset views and mountain silence.
This key acclimatization day takes you up to the stark and rocky Lava Tower, where you’ll stop for lunch at high altitude. The terrain shifts to alpine desert, and the air is noticeably thinner. After lunch, descend into the lush Barranco Valley, surrounded by towering cliffs and strange alien plants. Spend the night at the scenic Barranco Camp, beneath the dramatic Barranco Wall.
Begin with a thrilling scramble up the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable climb with panoramic views. Traverse several valleys and ridges while adjusting to the altitude. Today’s relatively short trek is designed for acclimatization. Arrive at Karanga Camp in time for a warm lunch, afternoon rest, and rehydration.
Climb steadily to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit. The trail is dry, rocky, and windswept—offering dramatic views of Mawenzi Peak in the distance. You’ll arrive early to rest, eat, and prepare for your summit attempt. After an early dinner, you’ll sleep a few hours before the midnight climb to the roof of Africa begins.
At midnight, begin your final ascent under the stars. The switchback trail to Stella Point (5,756m) is tough but magical. With patience and determination, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, just in time for sunrise. Celebrate, take photos, then descend carefully to Millennium Camp, where you’ll sleep after your biggest achievement.
On your final morning, enjoy a relaxed descent through the lush rainforest. The trail is often muddy and slippery but filled with fresh air and forest sounds. Upon arrival at Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate. After lunch, your driver will transfer you to your hotel in Moshi for a much-deserved hot shower and celebration.
